The most exciting thing about the first semester of uni is the biggest Team Napier night of the year, as run by Napier Dance. It is always so much fun and really is such a great fundraiser for us all. The concept follows that of Strictly but in our version Dance members are the “pros” and members of Team Napier sports and societies are our “celebs” – we pair them up, they learn a dance then compete on the night. The standard of the couples that competed last weekend was immense, I couldn’t believe the sort of performances we were seeing from beginners!
In addition to the partners, we also had a performance from Edinburgh Napier Pop Choir who sang an acapella rendition of Mambo No. 5 – what a classic. But excitingly for me, it is also the first chance for our competition teams to flex their muscles. The show was opened by our fabulous Hip Hop team who sassed it out so much, they looked awesome! Absolutely loved Blythe’s choreography and can’t wait to see what she comes up with for the competitions. This year I am part of the Jazz team and am the captain of the Contemporary team which is super exciting. I really enjoyed choreographing Sand and I am super proud of how the performance went.
The whole evening ran super smoothly and we raised a bunch for the club so all in all, it was a success. I had so much fun at our afterparty, we had the whole club to ourselves so it was great to dance the night away with my fellow dancers and a bunch of Pop Choir and Drama friends. Already buzzing for next year and hoping that I’ll be able to take a partner next time!
