A bunch of pumpkins on the ground

a love letter to autumn

Autumn is absolutely the best season and I’ve been trying my best to revel in it between being busy with work and flat DIY. I love the nippy weather, bundling up in jumpers, coats and scarves, watching the trees change into the most gorgeous tones over the weeks then getting to crunch and rustle my way through the leaves on the ground.

I’ve been back on my spooky reading challenge, loving curling up on the sofa with a blanket or two, and reading about something dark while the rain pours outside my window, or watching Gilmore Girls (again).

This October, I’ve also been enjoying a new creative challenge of writing a poem every day, following the Inktober prompts. I’m definitely not a poet but I’ve really enjoyed trying out a new type of creativity, seeing what the prompts bring up and which words I want to use to convey those thoughts and feelings. It’s also been really nice creating just for myself and only sharing it with my friend who’s also doing the challenge.

I’ve been prioritising getting outside as much as possible before it gets too dark and cold to be out there soon and the adventures have been a lot of fun. From a jaunt up to Skye, reading mystery books on the train, to going on big sprawling walks around Edinburgh, trawling Stockbridge’s charity shops for great second-hand books (and picking up the best sandwich, thank you Mootz).

At work, we launched the panto season which involved a lot of pumpkins both real and comically large. Then I went to pick real ones along with apples and blueberries at Craigie Farm with my bestie – I think spending a day at a PYO farm is one of the best ways to pass a day. I’ve had cosy nights at home with pals filling my sofa, sharing pizza and watching cheesy movies, getting them to do little crafty things, or coming up with new creative challenges to share together. I’ve been on a jaunt to Perth in search of unicorn intel at the museum.

And most spectacularly, I was able to spontaneously hop in the car, scoot to the coast and see the aurora borealis for the first time with two of my besties!! We had such a fun evening together being awestruck and silly, dancing around, lying on the ground and trying endlessly to capture the best photographs of the northern lights. I’m just so relieved I’ve finally caught the merry dancers with my own eyes!

As ever, thank you autumn x
